En el nuevo programa de Avance Deportivo in English os contamos cómo va la venta de entradas para los Juegos Olímpicos y Paralímpicos de Río 2016.

Hello I’m Joshua, I’m an English teacher at NEP English school and this is Avance Deportivo in English.

Brazilian residents applied for 5.2 million tickets for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games during the first sales phase, which closed on Wednesday (6 April). Evidently, the most sought-after tickets were for volleyball, followed by football and basketball. For events that had more requests than available tickets, there was a draw. The results of the draw will be released this month, with a second sales phase starting in July.

However, only Brazilian residents who entered the first phase will be able to participate in the second, with those who were unsuccessful first time around having priority in the second draw. The results of the second phase will be announced in August. For Brazilian residents who did not enter the first two phases, there will be a first-come-first-served online sales phase in October.

Non-residents of Brazil who want to buy tickets for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games should enter into contact with the authorised ticket reseller (ATR) for their territory. In total, about 7.5 million tickets for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will be put on sale.

The organisers for the Paralympics want record ticket sales. Organisers say that more than three million tickets will be made available for the 2016 Rio Paralympics.
It is hoped that the total will pass the record 2.8m sold for the 2012 London Games.

Tickets will go on sale on 7 September 2015, a year before the games start. Rio will mark the event by hosting a National Paralympic Day.

Around 4,350 athletes from more than 170 countries will compete in 22 sports from 7-18 September 2016. Andrew Parsons, chairman of the Rio 2016 Paralympic integration committee said: “Many world records will be set by athletes during the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, but the first one we hope will be broken by the public”. Parsons, who is also International Paralympic Committee vice president also said: “The Brazilian people will play a major role in breaking the record for Paralympic Games ticket sales, but we are also counting on international fans to achieve this fantastic target”.

That’s all for this week, join me next week for another Avance Deportivo in English.
