En el cuarto programa de Avance Deportivo in English, dentro del programa de radio de Avance Deportivo, te ofrecemos información sobre la Universiada de Granada.
Hello! I’m Joshua I’m an English teacher at NEP English school in Malaga. Today I’m going to talk about the winter Universiade. The Winter Universiade Granada 2015 will take place on 4th to 14th February 2015 at the Sierra Nevada ski resort in Granada. Almost 3,000 student – athletes competed in the last Winter Universiade in Turkey which proves it’s one of the most important sporting events in the world.
In Granada 2015 the competition programme includes six different events: Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding, Freestyle, Figure Skating, Speed Skating, Curling and Ice Hockey. The FIS (International Ski Federation) has decided that all alpine skiing events will take place on the Universiades Ski Track, . The finish line of the Sulayr Snowpark will hold three different disiplines of snowboarding and freestyle skiing. The Sierra Nevada ski tracks were designed so they can be used for skiing competitions as well as skiing for tourists. This ski track was especially designed to make easier for spectators to attend the Alpine Skiing competitions.
The Sulayr Snowpark in Loma de Dílar will hold four snowboarding competitions and three freestyle skiing events. Most of these events will share the same finish line. This will make easier the Media and spectators to access the events.
For those of you who are interested in ice hockey, Men’s Ice hockey will take place at The Sports Palace of Granada and women’s Ice hockey will take place at The Mulhacén Pavilion. The Igloo 2015 by the Cármenes Football Stadium will host the Figure Skating and Speed Skating. Curling will be played in one of the Fuentenueva Campus’ Pavilions.
If you’d like to be part of this amazing event you can join the volunteer programme and be a derrapador in the alpine skiing competition of the Universiade in Sierra Nevada. You must be 18 or older by February 2015. You must also be available during the from 4th to 14th February 2015 which, is when the event takes place, have a good skiing level or previous experience as a derrapador at a competition in a ski resort.
You can apply by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Volunteers will get free transport between Granada and Sierra Nevada, free meals during their working hours, clothes and equipment and a certificate.
Now, I’ve chosen some vocabulary to explain to you:
– Participant: someone who takes part or participates in a competition or event.
– Resort: A resort is a place that’s used for holidays, relaxing or for doing a particular activities for example ski resort or a golf resorts.
– Freestyle: Freestyle means the competiter is allowed to complete the race or performance in any style that they choose. For example in a freestyle swimming race each swimmer can choose to swim with any stroke or style. In a freestyle football competition, players compete with each other my doing different skills and tricks. So the rules and regulations that apply during a football match don’t apply to a freestyle competition.
That’s all for today, join me next week for another programme.
