Summer kicked off with a bang this week as we welcomed our Olympians to the NEP Summer Olympic Games!
We had fun learning, warming up with choreographed dancing to English songs each day, then playing games to learn vocabulary for sports, summer activities like going to the beach, swimming, and eating ice cream, and geography.
Our older athletes (6-9 years old) also are working on long-term projects planning their own Olympic Games, and started their books this week imagining themselves as Olympians, including what sports they would compete in, and if they would win a gold medal, as well as what city and country their Olympics would be held in.
In addition to the Olympic themed crafts, songs, and story time, our younger students (3-5 years old) also enjoyed videos, games, activities and songs about summer, colors, sports, and the spirit of friendly competition such as sharing, respect, discipline and trying our best.
All of our champions explored Olympic traditions and symbols like the laurel wreath crown and the Olympic torch, and we even constructed our own Greek pavilion! The week culminated in an authentic Olympic ceremony, complete with our torches, crowns, medals and winners certificates for our athletes this week who most displayed our Olympic values of Teamwork, Respect, Positivity, Responsibility, and Sharing.
One of the highlights of the week is always the water fight every Friday, where the students cut loose and cool down in the playground, putting to use many of the lessons they learned about friendly competition!
We can’t wait for more fun crafts, games and learning next week! Summer Olympics Games… Here we go! Check back in next Friday for more updates.
