What an exciting second week at the NEP Olympics Summer Camp! In true Olympic fashion we kept active by playing kickball, dancing the YMCA, doing gymnastics, and competing in races.
We learned vocabulary for words related to the Olympics, sports, summer, and weather through fun activities like charades, matching games, “shark tag,” and flashcard races. We also put the covers on our Olympic books this week, and they are looking great.
In addition to our physical and academic efforts, arts and crafts like Olympic rings masques, whirligigs, and floating sailboats let us express our artistic and creative side. One of the favorite activities of the week for the older athletes (6 – 9 years old) was painting t-shirts with colorful and victorious Olympic rings and medals. The younger athletes look forward to painting their t-shirts next week.
Additionally, the ball-toss game was a hit with the older students, inspiring some fierce but friendly competition to see which of the two teams could earn the most points, and the athletes are eagerly awaiting a rematch!
After the joint certificate ceremony on Friday where we recognized the contributions of our champions who most exhibited our Olympic values of Positivity, Respect, Discipline, Sharing, Teamwork and Responsibility, we had a blast at the traditional Friday water party.
