It may be hot in Malaga but it got chilly at summer camp this week as we jumped into Winter Olympics!
We practiced friendly competition and exhibiting our Olympic values at a Field Day circuit competition with a spoon-and-“egg”-race, ball-toss, and the star was the “snowy” sled race with obstacles.
Later in the week we also had a “ski” racecomplete with a “snowy” starting line. Athletes created and competed on their own flip-flop skis, the very latest in cutting-edge ski technology and design and it was a blast for both racers and spectators!
More snow was seen in the class throughout the week as we made mini ski and snowboard racing figurines, prepared and painted a target for a competition next week, and constructed “snow globes”.
Following on the success of last week’s t-shirt painting in the older group, the younger class took their turn paintingtheir t-shirts with Olympic rings and many students proudly wore them throughout the week.
The wintery theme continued into our academic work, as we learned winter weather words as well as winter Olympic sports vocabulary like ice hockey, snowboarding, skiing, ice skating, and bobsledding.
Our older students contributed to their Olympic Planning books by creating their own mascots for their Olympics.
On Friday, we hosted the weekly certificate ceremony recognizing our athletes who best embodied our Olympic Values this week.
Afterwards, despite the “freezing” temperatures at the Winter Olympics we were luckily still able to host the weekly WATER PARTY to cap off a great week!
We can’t wait to see everyone next week as it warms up and we return to THE SUMMER GAMES!
